The mortality related to birthweight and the applicability of percentiles by birthweight to gestational age are examined, based on the population of liveborn and died newborns on the district of Gera [East Germany] at 1978 to 1982. The birthweight of the newborn infants are related to mortality rates, males and females and the different time of death. A resemble analysis realized referable percentiles. The preferences of this method - a increase of information, better comparison referable national and international population of newborn infants, standardization of risk structure especially at previous births, the number and mortality of small for data infants are estimable-are discussed.
