Insulin participation in the regulation of proliferation and differentiation of megakaryocytes has been proved. Thrombocytopenia, attended by decreased daily thrombocytopoiesis and megakaryocyte number, has been recorded in insulin deficiency, the number of megakaryoblasts in megakaryocytogram being increased. Insulin load under physiological conditions leads to moderate thrombocytosis with biphasic changes of the megakaryocyte number; the percent of megakaryocytes in megakaryocytogram is reduced. Under conditions of drug-induced thrombocytopenia injection of exogenous insulin is attended by pronounced thrombocytosis and megakaryocytopenia; the level of immature megakaryocytes in megakaryocytogram is lowered.
