Food poisoning and hypertensive crises

In patients with hypertension, food poisoning involves the risk of hypertension crises (HC) with acute disorders of cerebral blood circulation. In a study of 138 patients with hypertension and food poisoning, who developed HC, 14 had hypertonic cardiac crisis, 2 acute hypertonic encephalopathy, 42 transient and 19 acute disorder of cerebral blood circulation, 8 had haemorrhagic and 2 ischaemic stroke and 5 sub-arachnoid haemorrhage. Clinical manifestations of these conditions are described and discussed in detail.
