Two preparations from the group of bis-quaternary ammonium compounds were studied for their functional state of cytoplasma membranes in Escherichia coli cells. Thionium and ethonium being applied in the doses of 10 and 100 .mu.g/ml are shown to increase permability of cytoplasma membranes of bacterial cells and to decrease the activity of the dehydrogenase complex enzymes localized in it.
