Clinical analysis of microsurgical reversal of female sterilization revealed that the interval between reversal and sterilization played an important role in the pregnancy outcome. For this investigation, the proximal segments of the ligated tube from women who demanded reversal throughout China were examined for micro- and ultrastructure by light microscopy (LM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) between September 1988-January 1990. 228 specimens were divided into 2 groups--group 1 had an interval of more than 5 years and group 2 less than 5 years. LM and SEM showed that the incidence of deciliation, inflammation, and mucosal lesions rose with an increase in interval time. However, hydrosalpinx and inclusion bodies have no statistical differences in the 2 groups. TEM demonstrated that ultrastructures had no evident differences between the 2 groups. However, there were more severe changes in group 1. Observation suggests that pathologic changes in tissue and cells at the proximal site of oviductal obstruction are directly related to the interval between sterilization and reversal.
