Perinatal audit through Wigglesworth's classification

Perinatal audit was performed on the perinatal deaths between 1978 to 1984 at our institute. A total of 15,952 births and 893 deaths occurred during this period. The deaths were classified according to Wigglesworth's classification. Extended perinatal mortality rate, still-birth rate and early neonatal mortality rate showed a significant decline. The major contribution to this decline was made by reduction in deaths in premature babies particularly those weighing between 1000-1500 g.
