The literature on the effects of teenage parenthood on the adolescent mother herself, her child, and her mother is reviewed from the perspectives of ecological and family systems theories. Life course trajectories of the three family members and how changes due to early motherhood co-occur are described. Emphasis is placed on missing links between what is known about the lives of these families and how services are provided. Recommendations are given vis-a-vis future directions for programs and services.
