We present a prospective study of dog bites to 197 patients and discuss the epidemiology, and the possibility of primary suture of dog bites. We found no significant difference in the rate of infection between wounds that were sutured and wounds that were not. The highest rate of infection was found in punctate wounds. We propose guidelines for treatment of dog bites.
