Dipyridamole two-dimensional echocardiography test in evaluating coronary artery disease

Dipyridamole two-dimensional echocardiography test (2-dimensional echocardiographic monitoring combined with intravenous dipyridmole infusion at a dosage of 0.5 mg/kg for 4 minutes, DP-2 DE) was performed in 34 patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and in 26 control subjects. This study assesses the clinical feasibility of the test and its relative sensitivity and specificity compared with the exercise two-dimensional echocardiography test (ES-2 DE) for the detection of significant CAD. Positive test was defined as the detection of transient regional asynergy of contraction. The DP-2 DE had an overall sensitivity of 70.6% and specificity of 100% for the presence of CAD. This method is safe and simple. Also, it can overcome limitations of ES-2 DE. So, it is a new and promising alternative or noninvasive diagnosis of CAD.
