This paper discusses gender discrimination in connection with the process of socialization, marriage (especially early-age marriage and selection of partner), practice of dowry, education, health and nutrition, participation in family decision making, employment and wage, and property rights. The main focus of this paper is to find out the existing situation of women in various spheres of the life cycle and assess to what extent gender discrimination is taking place and how social mobilization strategies are to be adopted at the individual, family, community and societal levels in order to eliminate the deep-rooted problem of gender discrimination in Bangladesh.
