The increase in the numbers of children born out of wedlock during the 1980s in the Czech and Slovak Republics is attributed in part to the growing population of unmarried women. The change has been slower in the Slovak Republic than in the Czech, however, and continued increases in illegitimate births are not foreseen. (SUMMARY IN ENG AND RUS)
