Six radiologists employed 200 and 250 1/p stationary grids on a series of 150 patients, to assess the increase in diagnostic efficiency by answering an 8-point questionnaire on image quality. A 30 to 80% improvement in the quality of the ratiograms was reported, according to the parameters considered. No grid disturbance was ever observed, nor was grid use conclusive in diagnostic terms. Breasts were classified into type A breasts: prevalently adipose; type B breasts: relatively dense and dysplastic; type C breasts: dense. The best results were obtained in type B breasts.
