The Author studied a case of chronic pharyngolaryngeal edema which had developed gradually, with typical mutiple symptoms, i.e., mechanical dysphagia with odynophagia, dysphonia and occasional inspiratory dyspnea. An exact diagnosis was achieved two years after onset of the first symptoms, since the inflammatory process subsided only after a change of job. The conclusion is based on the reasonable diagnostic suspect of a chronic toxic edematous pharyngolaryngitis caused by the daily inhalation of Freon gas over a prolonged period of time.
