Retrogasserian injection of glycerol for trigeminal neuralgia

In the past four years, 754 patients underwent a total of 104 retroagasserian injections of glycerol for trigeminal neuralgia. The recurrence rate of pain was 30%. The most common side-effect was a decrease in facial sensation (48%). There was an ultimate excellent or good outcome in 91%. In 32 followed for at least two, years, the outcome was favorable in 88% and the recurrent rate was 28%. Retrogasserian glycerol injection is effective for cases of trigeminal neuralgia which no longer respond to medical therapy.
