Reactive arthritis of the sacroiliac joint

Two cases of acute reactive arthritis in the sarcoiliac joints are reported. The patients presented with acute lumbosacral pain radiating to the posterior aspects of the thighs preventing them from walking and sitting. Clinical examination suggested the sacroiliacal joints as the origin of symptoms. No abnormalities were found on radiographical investigations. Serological evidence of recent infection with Yersinia enterocolitica were found in both patients and they were both HLA-B27 positive. Initially there were no symptoms from peripheral joints. After treatment with NSAID, general relief were obtained and with subsequent mobilisation the conditions improved well.
