Tendency to edema as the initial symptom of Cushing's syndrome

A case history is reported where the initial symptom of Cushing's syndrome was monosymptomatic oedema. Four years later, the patient presented numerous classical symptoms of Cushing's syndrome. The diagnosis is established by means of repeated raised cortisol values in 24-hour urine samples. This is a simple investigation. The diagnosis of Cushing's syndrome should be established as early as possible in order to reduce the morbidity and mortality. The diagnosis is easy to establish, provided it is borne in mind.
