Total and HDL cholesterol levels were estimated in the sera of patients suffering from biharziasis and hepatomegaly. It was only in cases of obstructive jaundice and infective hepatitis that there were significant elevation of total cholesterol and reduction of total HDL and its ratio. Bilharziasis was found to have no appreciate effect. These findings might be of clinical value for the differential diagnosis of the three hepatobiliary pathological conditions.
