This review deals with some aspects of growth-promoting factors in various tissues, excluding orthodox hormones. No claim is made of complete coverage of the literature, nor was this thought to be the most urgent task. Rather, the problems are to be spotlighted by a discussion of selected and, it is hoped, representative investigations; such selection is of necessity subjective and arbitrary.
