HIV/AIDS prevention strategies in the Republic of Georgia

This article documents the incidence of the HIV and AIDS infections in the Republic of Georgia and the reasons for concern among international agencies that the problem could soon become much worse there. It then describes the efforts already underway in Georgia to contain and eliminate that danger: the AIDS Prevention and Control Program, introduced in 1994, the AIDS prevention legislation enacted in 1995 and the Blood Safety Program, begun in 1997.
