The clinical and hematological findings of Mediterranean anemia occurring in adult age are presented. The clinical manifestations are extremely variable, some of them are due to hemolysis, others due to vascular occlusion associated with the abnormal cells. It is interesting to note that the latter does not depend on the amount of abnormal hemoglobin present. The condition is widely distributed all over the country, and a thorough hematological study may discover more cases.
