Disorders of the temporomandibular joint have received much interest during the last decade. There is multifactorial etiology and radiologic investigations have often shown to be insufficient. This paper attempts to review critically the diagnostic tools available with special reference to techniques which seem to have promising potentials to overcome present deficiencies in diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders.
