Health of teeth in regard to exposure to mercury in the thermometer industry

The effect was examined of high concentrations of mercury in the air in room of the workplace in regard to the state of dental health from 82 exposed workers, especially the GPM/T .sbd. and the plaque .sbd. index and the pocket .sbd. depth. It was searched particularly for typical symptoms of load or intoxicaton of mercury in the oral cavity. The results of the study showed the direct influence of mercury in loss of teeth, in disease of marginal periodontis, in gingivitis and periodontitis. The periodontal diseases will progress further by deficient hygiene of mouth and the additional influence of mercury. Observance of legislation concerning the protection of labourers handling mercury in the workplace is necessary. The Maximum Allowable Concentration (MAC) was lower in 1986. It is necessary to include in this case the work of the doctor together with the dentist.
