The nomadic Masai live in primitive conditions with little sanitation and a prevalence of parasitic infestation and infectious diseases. They drink an average of 3 to 5 quarts/day of their staple milk supplemented with cow's blood and meat and have a daily energy intake of about 3000 kcal, 66% of it from fat.
