Pleomorphic pseudosarcomatous carcinoma of larynx

A case of pleomorphic mesenchymal tumour, the so-called pleomorphic pseudosarcomatous carcinoma of the larynx is discussed. A man aged 72 years presented with progressive hoarseness. Direct laryngoscopy revealed a tumour mass localized to the anterior third of the left vocal cord. Light and electron microscopy examination of a biopsy specimen and three subsequent specimens revealed a pleomorphic pseudosarcomatous carcinoma. Carcino-sarcoma, spindle cell carcinoma and pseudosarcoma were considered in the differential diagnosis.
