Influence of materials on reproducibility of centric relation records

The reproducibility and variability of centric relation records, using five recording materials, were studied. Ten patients with new removable complete dentures were evaluated by two dentists. Each dentist, using one of two methods for positioning the mandible, made three successive records with occlusal registration wax, pink record base wax, thermoplastic impression material, metallic oxide past, and impression plaster. The variability of the records were compared. Results showed that none of the materials had any statistically significant advantage over the others.
