Effects of different durations of CAPD prior to renal transplantation on graft survival

Thirty cases with chronic renal failure that were prepared by CAPD receiving cadaveric renal transplantation were reported. According to the duration of dialysis, patients were divided into two groups. Cases in group I had dialysed for 6 months or less, and those in group II for more than 6 months prior to renal transplantation. Except for the difference in duration of CAPD, there were no significant differences between two groups in terms of age, sex, original renal diseases, creatinine clearance, frequencies of blood transfusion before operation. Histological matching and methods in prevention from and control of rejection were also similar in the two groups. It was revealed from the Kaplan-Meier curve that one year graft survival after transplantation was 80% in group I and 70% in group II, respectively. No difference was found in graft survival between two groups. In our opinion, CAPD is a suitable treatment for patients awaiting renal transplantation.
