The structural-functional system of erythron regulation has been described. Molecular mechanisms of formation and action of erythropoietin, playing the main role in the erythron regulation, have been analyzed. It has been shown that biogenesis of erythropoietin in the kidneys is DNA-dependent synthesis of hormone, and it involves the mechanism of depression of specific RNA synthesis. The bone marrow response to erythropoietin involves activation of erythron-specific RNA synthesis; this is preceeded by modifications of histones and nonhistone proteins.
