The study arose from the case of a healthy woman who said she had lived on fruit and a few nuts only for 12 years. Test diet was based on her chosen diet. It was given for 24 weeks to 9 Bantu men schizo-phrenics in remission but still getting tranquillisers and 8 normal white women and men. Recommended minimum intake on the fruit diet was 2 or 3 cups of fruit juice (300 kcal), about 70 g nuts (400 kcal) and 20 portions of fruit including at least 450 g avocado pear (150 kcal).
