The bacterial flora of the throat and vagina of parturients and of the throat of newborns born after physiological labour and newborns delivered by caesarean section were studied. After identification of bacterial strains a number of conclusions were drawn, among them that the bacterial flora of the throat in parturients had relatively few bacterial strains, while that in newborns born after physiological labour was similar to that of the vagina of the mother.
