1003 patients examined by cervical Doppler are reviewed to find sex differences in the risk of cerebrovascular disease (CVD) associated with carotid stenosis. The data show a significantly higher frequency of stenosis in the males, and a twofold higher risk of stenosis in the males vs females with risk factors. On the contrary the association between stenosis and CVD is higher in females.
