Imbalance of demand and supply of antenatal beds needed the situation analysis. A retrospective study of utilization of antenatal beds during ten-month period was performed. Details of type of complication of pregnancy, occupancy rate from January 1, 1986 to October 31, 1986, length of hospital stay were analysed. There were 1,061 admission, with 68 per cent of antenatal complications, 19 per cent of elective caesarean section, 9 per cent of termination of pregnancy, 2 per cent of postpartum complication, and 2 per cent of other conditions. The total occupancy rate was 78.8 per cent, 67 per cent were for antenatal complications, 4.9 per cent for caesarean section, 4.6 per cent for termination of pregnancy, 1.4 per cent for postpartum complication and 0.7 per cent for others. The longest length of stay was endocrine problems, followed by surgical, hypertensive disorder and molar pregnancy. Reduction of stay is possible with a change in management for cases for elective caesarean section, unwanted pregnancy and molar pregnancy. A further in depth study should be performed to improve the use of antenatal bed.
