Trepanobiopsies from 171 patients with chronic myeloid leukemia have been investigated. On the basis of the data obtained it was found that leukemia affection of the bone marrow is often attended by myelofibrosis, that was detected in 53.9% of patients in chronic stage, and in 86.4% of patients in terminal stage. The reticular variant of myelofibrosis was observed more often than collagenic one. Myelofibrosis development is possible already at the initial clinical symptoms of the disease, its frequency rises with the growth of the disease duration. The development of diffuse myelofibrosis is an unfavourable diagnostic sign.
