The initial manifestations of neurotic disorders

Problems related to a differential clinical evaluation of neurotic disturbances are discussed on the basis of the analysis of a specially selected group of patients (1517 subjects) with the initial signs of the disease. Nonpathological neurotic disturbances (adaptational reactions, response to stress), preneurotic disorders and the initial manifestations of the neuroses proper, decompensation of psychopathy and other morbid conditions were recognized and described. Questions of the differential diagnosis and prognosis of neurotic disturbances that outwardly have the same neurotic manifestations are discussed. An original scheme of the structure and dynamics of psychogenic mental disturbances is given.
