Corrosive pulmonary damage following exposure to sodium hydroxide has rarely been described. A case of irreversible obstructive pulmonary damage is described in a previously healthy women aged 25 years after treating wood with an alkaline solution for a single day. Only prophylactic measures can prevent pulmonary damage of this type.
