Intermittent atrial parasystole with exit block: observations with a report on atrial arrhythmias caused by tapping with the fingers of the lateral cervical region

Five cases of intermittent atrial parasystole with exit block are presented, in which one case with the occurrence of multifocal atrial tachycardia and atrial flutter or fibrillation caused by the tapping with the fingers of the lateral cervical region is described. Two cases were intermittent parasystolic bigeminy, in which one was thought to be left atrial parasystole and an alternative explanation of the other was real sinus parasystole. Other three cases were multifocal atrial parasystole, and concomitant reentrant beats, resetting of the atrial parasystolic pacemaker by the sinus impulse, and recurring atrial fusion during atrial parasystolic quinquageminy alternating with trigeminy were observed.
