A surgical successful case of anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery (ALCAPA) in infancy

ALCAPA is a rare cardiac anomaly and that most of the successful anastomonic operation reported were performed in the adult type. This is a case report of an 4 months of age, in which established the two-coronary system with Takeuchi's technique, in which a tunnel was made from a created aortopulmonary window of the ostium of the left coronary artery utilizing a flap of anterior wall of the pulmonary artery. The postoperative course was uneventful and the baby improved clinically. The heart size decreased chest X-ray film and her body weight increased. EF of left ventricle evaluated after operation remained unchanged. The perfusion defects in single photon emission computed tomography remained but reduced in anterolateral region of the left ventricle. There were still controversies regarding the surgical indication of infantile type, advantages of Takeuchi's method was it applicable in infancy with such an impaired LV function. Close and long-term of the baby surgically treated was warranted.
