Determination of the carcinoembryonic antigen in ORL neoplasms

In a group of patients with neoplasms in the ORL sphere, the authors proposed to verify the utility of determining the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) for evaluation of the prognosis and efficiency of the treatment. The results showed that the diagnostic interest of CEA is limited, but that a correlation exists between serum CEA concentration and the degree of extension of cancer, as well as between this concentration before treatment and the duration of survival. It is concluded that the CEA test is useful in clinical practice.
