Serum immunoglobulin levels in Indian children

To establish standards for Indian children, serum immunoglobulin (Ig)G, IgA and IgM were estimated in 306 children from birth to 13 years old using the modified Mancini's single radial immunodiffusion technique. Serum IgA and IgM values during the first 13 years were in broad conformity with the values established in the West. However, the serum IgG values of Indian children were appreciably higher than their Western counterparts at all ages. This is probably a reflection of the greater variety and frequency of antigenic challenge in the indigenous population.
