Epigastric pain is assumed to be the symptom most frequently occurring in patients with digestive tract disorders. Relative rarity of pancreatic diseases is no obstacle in recognizing them frequently in patients. The absence of pathognomonic signs and the very deep retroperitoneal location of the organ make the diagnosis difficult. The problem is to diagnose pancreatic diseases more efficiently, and to conduct further efficient differential diagnosis in the group of pancreatic disorders. The authors present an approach to differential diagnosis in cases of epigastric pain. For this purpose a method of medical data processing was evolved. The authors present computer-aided consultation in cases of epigastric pain and suspected pancreatic disorder.
