Unless proper measures are taken, international travelers could believe that HIV/AIDS is strictly an infection and disease endemic of and problematic to other countries. However, exposing travelers to the same messages as they move from one country to another shows them that HIV/AIDS is not a foreign disease and that serious efforts are being made in both countries to prevent it. These cross-border HIV/AIDS interventions endeavor to maintain a seamless preventive environment for people who cross borders and linger in checkpost towns. The staff of the two HIV/AIDS prevention projects sponsored by the AIDS Control and Prevention (AIDSCAP) Project on either side of the India-Nepal border thought it important to maintain consistency not only in the prevention messages being disseminated across the border but also in the image and tone of those messages. The Bhoruka AIDS Prevention Project in India therefore adopted the project logo developed by AIDSCAP/Nepal to use in posters, leaflets, stickers, and counter displays. While the Nepal program's logo was changed to make it culturally acceptable to Indian sensibilities, the messages, translated into Hindi, remained the same.
