The advantages of active cooperation between the otosurgeon and the neurosurgeon in translabyrinthine acoustic tumor surgery are exemplified by the personal experience of the authors in five recently operated patients, in which preservation of facial nerve function is emphasized. In two cases preservation of this function was of utmost importance, since both patients had only one eye and the acoustic neurinoma was on the side of the single eye. In four cases the tumor was excised by the translabyrinthine approach and in one a combined translabyrinthine-suboccipital approach was applied. The integrity of the facial nerve was thus preserved in all five patients.
