A method for low-temperature conservation of skeletal muscles was developed and described. The experiment was conducted with white rats. Data were presented on the oxidative phosphorylation of mitochondria of muscles isolated immediately after decapitation and after 2-3 days later with the use of muscle conservation. This method may be used in experiments with animals flown on biosatellites, and also in any other situations requiring studies of oxidative metabolism of skeletal muscles outside laboratories and when large quantities of muscle specimens should be treated in short periods.
