Surgical stereotactic treatment for Gilles de la Tourette's syndrome

The various treatment (pharamacological, behavioural, etc.) proposed for Gilles de la Tourette syndrome, a psychiatric disorder characterized by multiple motor tics, echolalia and coprolalia, are often unsuccessful. Therefore, the alternative is to perform neurosurgical treatment. Results of 17 recorded cases surgically treated (4 of which operated in our Institute) are reviewed. Because of unreliable results, surgery is indicated only in a few selected cases.
