Over the last year, 90% of our cases of lipodystrophy have been treated by a liposuction method on a totally outpatient basis by means of perfectly effective local anesthesia, particularly in trochanteric regions, which constitute the majority of the patients consulting us. The absence of premedication and admission to hospital-the patient is advised to return home, accompanied, during the period of analgesia-makes this procedure much more acceptable and almost all of the patients are able to return to work within 48 hours. The results appear to be absolutely comparable to those obtained without general anesthesia at a much more reasonable cost.
