The analgesic and anti-inflammatory efficacy of a new drug of the oxicam group, tenoxicam, was tested in a comparative multicenter trial in 58 patients suffering from osteoarthritis or extra-articular rheumatism. The study was carried out according to a parallel double-blind scheme, with the possibility of substituting the active drug after one week if the placebo proved incapable to control the painful symptomatology. Tenoxicam was found to be effective or very effective in 98% of the patients treated; it was well tolerated by all patients.
