Epostane, which prevents progesterone synthesis by inhibiting 3 beta -hydroxy steroid dehydrogenase, was given to 20 ewes between 138 and 141 days' gestation (term 148 days). Plasma progesterone values fell abruptly and all ewes delivered healthy lambs within 30-36 hours of treatment. Intramuscular injection seemed the best route.
