The preoperative determination of retroperitoneal metastases in testicular tumours

50 selected cases of testicular tumours seen over a ten-year period and histologically proven as thirty-five seminoma and fifteen teratoma and on which lymphographic studies were carried out, prior to surgery are presented. Fifteen of these patients had positive lymphnode defects diagnosed pre-operatively by a method described by the author. Of the 50 patients in the series, 35 are alive, 8 were lost to follow up after two years and 7 others are presumably dead. The success rate recorded is ascribed as to the advances made in the lymphographic technique carried out by the author which enables him to locate lymphnodes metastases before hand as well as plan his definitive surgery well ahead.
