Relation between age and body weight and location, form and size of the fat fold near the pylorus ("pig's ear") in the greater omentum of cattle

In 150 German Black Pied cattle (100 cows, 50 beef bulls) examined at slaugher, 4% of cows and 10% of bulls had no fat folds. Most had 1 or 2, while 20% and 14% respectively had 3 or 4, one of which was usually much more developed than the others. Degree of fat deposition varied greatly and was not correlated with size. Five types were defined according to type of attachment and shape of fat body. The largest fat fold was approx. 100 times larger than the smallest. A distribution pattern was derived from topographic measurements.
