A survey of 131 pet owners who had utilized the Hennepin Regional Poison Center in Minneapolis in 1985 (about 10% of the animal inquiries received annually) showed that 44% had been referred by a veterinarian. The poison centre staff recommended treatment for about half the cases. One animal died in spite of referral to a veterinarian.
