Preparation of 14C-sterigmatocystin and its in vivo and in vitro binding with macromolecules

[14C]-Sterigmatocystin was isolated from surface cultures of Aspergillus versicolor in liquid medium containing [14C]-acetate. In vivo binding studies with [14C]-sterigmatocystin in rats showed that the toxin was incorporated into protein and nucleic acid fractions of the liver. However, in vitro binding experiments using human serum showed that [14C]-sterigmatocystin was detected only in the albumin fraction and it is suggested that sterigmatocystin is transported as an albumin complex.
